Another student who's going to be a Pathologist and I wanted to sit in with our professor (he was the forensic anthropologist).  We weren't allowed because we're affiliated with the school, which was understandable.

Hey guys! Hope you had an awesome Christmas!!

Anyways, just thought I'd let you all know I have a few anthro textbooks that I'm willing to sell.
I've got the text book for Anthropology 230, 219, and 207.
My anthro 230 and 207 ones are brand new -- 230 has never been used....

My prices are cheaper by about $20-$30 than the book store so let me know!!

thanx -

Aynz.

This is what studying does... [04 Dec 2003|05:15pm]

I found this while reading my Anthropology textbook:

IF WE SHRANK THE EARTH'S POPULATION TO 100 PEOPLE....

The following is a non-biased perspective of the World's population. The author is unknown.

If we could shrink the Earth's population to a village of precisley 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like this-

57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south
8 Africans

Of these 100 people:
~52 would be female
~48 would be male
~70 would be non-white
~30 would be white
~70 would be non-Christian
~30 would be Christian
~89 would be heterosexual
~11 would be homosexual

~6 people would posses 59% of the entire world's wealth and all of them would be from the United States.

~80 would live in sub-standard housing
~70 would be illiterate
~50 would suffer from malnutrition
~1 would be near death;1 would be near birth
~1 would have a college education
~1 would own a computer

~ "When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for both acceptance, understanding, and education becomes glaringly apparent."

Puts things in perspective, don't it??

The Chacmool people have to get reciepts at the conference to be reimbursed. If anyone is interested in what the conference was like, those of us going will fill everyone in at a future meeting.

Some suggestions were made for club get-togethers:

-a movie night either at the college or at Terri's house
-a ski/snowboard trip

No planning has been made yet, and if anyone has other ideas about something they would like to do, feel free to mail the club, or post on here!!!
Hope you all are having a great weekend!!!

So, I've put club information, and links to any related sites under "livejournaluser info" link at the top. You just keep scrolling down. I'll play with colors later, so it doesn't look so plain :)

Also, how did today's meeting go? I really wish I could make these meetings, but I work every Wednesday, and I can't get out of it. *sigh*

Any word on donations and fundraising for the kids' Christmas Presents?? Maybe we should plan a fundraising event of some sort?? My friend's Model UN group at the UofA is doing a pub crawl... any thoughts on something like that???

That's it for now - Later all! ;)

Up and ready to go!!! :) [03 Nov 2003|10:39pm]

Hey ALL!!! Everything is set up and ready to go. I've decided to use LiveJournal.com to host the site, just because it's easier and faster to supply updates, and news with in the SAS, plus it is more interactive online. For those of you who may have LiveJournals, just add this community to your friend list. Those of you who are not familiar with this LiveJournal thing, it's basically a journal system, but you can create communities for any interest - which I've decided to do. Everytime I make a post, or anyone else does, on here, you can comment on the entry, and/or view others' comments, and reply to start an online discussion. You don't need an account to submit comments.
I'll be putting more info about the club, in the info section, and will keep updates regular; however, I will not be able to attend meetings on Wednesdays, since I now work days - I'll need someone to take notes and send them over to me, so I can post everything that was said at the meetings!!
I think this community is a good idea, everything can be kept on record, and you can scroll around.
Anyways, that's it for now - I look forward to feedback.
